Concessions.
I get asked occasionally whether I do concessions for, e.g. those who are on benefits, or students.
To these I usually answer (correctly) that my lowest rate of £35 is a concessionary rate already. I have overheads, like insurance, professional memberships, advertising, necessary clinical supervision, study time, and the other general business expenses . However, those who need a concession often have less fixed routine in their daily lives, or for other reasons can change their appointment times easily.
So some people are able to vary appointments at short notice, perhaps they are not working, or retired, or off work ill, or do flexitime working from home etc etc. Basically, we book in an appointment as usual. Early on the day, I’ll confirm the appointment by text message, or if I’m not as fit as usual I’ll suggest we defer the appointment to one of the following days.
The benefit for me is that I can continue to give a professional service to more clients as I get older. Sometimes, I cannot work with as many clients in a day as I used to and be sure of giving a professional service, so I choose to make less firm advance bookings, often only one in a day. However on most days I have plenty of time and energy to see more clients than that, and this is a good way of using that time and energy productively.
